Course Details: NEBOSH International General
- How the course is graded:
Candidates must achieve at least 45% from IG1 written exam paper and a ‘pass‘ from the IG2 practical assignment.
To pass this NEBOSH International General Certificate, you’ll need to achieve:
- At least 45 marks out of 100 from the IG1 written exam paper, plus
- A pass’ for the IG2 practical assignment. You can only gain a ‘pass’ or ‘refer’ grade for the assignment.
To pass the qualification you will need to complete the single IG1 written exam paper successfully and acheive a ‘pass’ grade for the practical assignment IG2 before a final overall grade is awarded.
Passing grades come in three categories, for the IG1 paper students must score at least: 45 – 64 marks to gain a ‘pass‘, 65 – 74 marks gain a ‘credit‘ and 75 marks or more for a distinction!
Candidates must also achieve a ‘pass’ grade for the IG2 practical assignment.

NEBOSH est. 1979, has been a UK-recognised awarding body since 2000 and received Approved Awarding Body Status from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Accreditation in 2009.

- Course Duration:
Approximately 96 hours time dedication is required to be completed within a one-year period. On average candidates complete the NEBOSH International General in 6-12 months.

- Unit IG1 and IG2: 65 hours tuition plus 41 hours private study.

- Study Syllabus:
The qualification is divided into two units, unit IG1: covers the Management of health and safety; and unit IG2: covers topics on how to successfully perform a Risk Assessment.
There are 11 study elements in total, Unit IG1 includes elements 1-4 and Unit IG2 includes elements 5-11.

One Written Exam + One Assignment
There are 4 units to study followed by one online written exam (IG1):
You must also submit a practical assignment (IG2) based on 7 units to SHEilds tutors.

There are 4 steps to passing the NEBOSH International General Certificate Qualification.

- Study the elements of the course online.
- Register for and sit the IG1 exam paper, remotely via Internet connection.
- Register for and sit the IG2 practical assignment, submitted remotely via Internet connection.
Once the IG1 online open book exam and IG2 assignment project are submitted, you’ll receive your final grade.
